Cal Poly Student Affairs Names New Assistant Vice President for Health and Wellbeing

June 12,2018

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly has named longtime healthcare administrator and medical professional Tina Hadaway-Mellis as its new assistant vice president for Student Affairs Health and Wellbeing.

Hadaway-Mellis will begin her new role June 27. In her new position, she will provide visionary leadership for all aspects of student health and wellbeing, including medical services, counseling services, health education and campus wellbeing. In addition, Hadaway-Mellis will be responsible for collaborating with on- and off-campus entities to develop entrepreneurial activities, including partnerships with private providers and fund development to enhance the health and wellbeing experience at Cal Poly.

“I’m excited to welcome Tina to Student Affairs and look forward to working with her on important health and wellness programs that our students depend on,” said Keith Humphrey, vice president for student affairs. “Her student-centric approach and wealth of experience will provide us with new opportunities to enhance student healthcare at Cal Poly.”

Hadaway-Mellis brings more than 20 years of experience in healthcare to Cal Poly, including budget oversight, operations and strategic planning for healthcare programs.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to be a member of the Student Affairs leadership team under Vice President Humphrey,” Hadaway-Mellis said. “He and his senior leaders are visionary and inspiring. As impressive is the dedication and acumen of the health center’s staff and directors. I feel privileged to lead such a talented group of dedicated professionals, and I’m honored to serve our campus community."

For the past four years, Hadaway-Mellis served as the clinical services director for the UC Berkeley, where she was responsible for guiding her department’s strategic development, fiscal performance, operational oversight and organizational planning, among other duties.

In addition, Hadaway-Mellis has served as a surveyor for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care since 2009, conducting on-site surveys to ensure the use of best practices in medical operations for college health, office-based and ambulatory surgery centers throughout the U.S. Her experience includes more than a decade as a healthcare professional. She later served in health administration for medical practices, surgery centers and ambulatory care centers in northern California, including Sequoia Surgical Pavilion in Walnut Creek.
