Douglas Wiggins

Douglas Wiggins is an entrepreneur with 25 years of corporate experience in the produce and import/export industry. Douglas is a proud Cal Poly alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business management. After graduating from Cal Poly, Doug worked as an intern for Jac Vandenberg Inc. in New York, importing Chilean grapes and tree fruit. This experience cultivated Doug’s passion for the produce industry. He opened his own import/export produce consolidation company in the early 1990s. At one point, he worked closely with Dr. Del Kader of UC Davis researching the “post-harvest ripening protocol for tree-ripened stone fruit.” Douglas applied this knowledge to become the first supplier to successfully ship fresh stone fruit by overnight airfreight to the East Coast for distribution.

Douglas semi-retired in 2000 to raise his two children, Frankie and Rachel. He now consults part time. His oldest child, Frankie, graduated from Cal Poly in 2014, and Rachel is currently studying communications at Cal Poly. Douglas is also a referee administrator for the American Youth Soccer Organization, Region 177. He increased the number of referees from 32 to 180 people in less than two years. He then went on to be a referee for U.S. Soccer, national high schools and universities.

Douglas resides in Long Beach, Calif., with his wife, Jackie, who serves as chair of the Cal Poly Parent Advisory Council and is active in many aspects of the university.
