In her role, Stewart will oversee all aspects of the program, including budget administration, staff supervision and compliance with all grant rules and regulations mandated by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, she will implement university-specific policies and procedures for the program, as well as providing personal and academic advising to program participants.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ethny Stewart to our department,” said Mardel Baldwin, assistant director of Student Academic Services. “She brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous positions that will further enhance our TRIO Achievers Program. In her brief tenure as director, Ethny has already made a great impact on our students, staff and faculty.”
Prior to joining Cal Poly, Stewart served as assistant director of outreach and diversity initiatives and coordinator of UC LEADS program for the Graduate Division at UC Santa Barbara.

“I look forward to supporting and growing the TRIO Achievers program service to help our historically underrepresented students persist and thrive as they pursue their educational goals at Cal Poly,” Stewart said.

Stewart earned her Bachelor of Science degree in food science at Cal Poly before completing her master’s degree in food science and technology at UC Davis. She earned her doctorate in education with an emphasis in teaching and learning and research methodology at UCSB.
