Julia Starkey

Julia Starkey and her husband, Scott, relocated to San Luis Obispo from Austin, Texas, in 2014. Julia works with Aware Awake Alive, a nonprofit organization she and her husband formed after their 18-year-old son, Carson, died from alcohol poisoning following a fraternity hazing ritual. She is committed to preventing others from suffering such a tragedy by sharing her story and leadership. Julia and her husband remain active overseeing Aware Awake Alive’s mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. Julia also actively cultivates institutional partnerships to bring life-saving tools to as many people as possible.

She enjoys spending time with her son, Hayden, daughter-in-law, Laura, and their two border collies.
